During a recreational dive in February at Burnt Island Grand, Eric Comin, Marine Biologist of the Laje Viva Institute found lots of lost fishing gear and trash around the island.
In Clean up Dive will happen in the coming days, we will try to remove most of these fishing gear.
The amount of these materials can be huge and are responsible for many negative impacts on the environment and fishing activity.
The diver João Paulo Scola of the Pé-de-Pato already anticipated and removed 5.5 kg of net fish and some cables that are being studied at the Fisheries Institute.
O João também reportou que existe outra rede enorme com aproximadamente 200 kg e SOLTA! Oferece grande risco aos mergulhadores e ao ambiente marinho. Essa rede está localizada entre o Tocantins e o Bananal na Ilha da Queimada Grande.
The João also reported that there is another huge network of approximately 200 kg and LOOSE! It offers great risk to divers and marine environment. This net fish is located between the Tocantins and Bananal at Queimada Grande Island.
